BACKGROUND
Since 2008, Lisa has been teaching, leading and co-creating in higher education within a variety of private and public institutions. She has taught design in undergraduate and graduate graphic design and visual communication programs, including Parsons School of Design (NYC), Queens College City University of New York (CUNY), Marymount Manhattan College (NYC), California State University Long Beach (CSULB), Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Oklahoma State University (OK), and Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI).

As of Fall 2017, she is a full-time Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at KCAI focusing on typography, user experience, and graphic design histories. Together with her colleagues, she strives to create learning experiences interweaving typography, image-making, history, theory and media literacy in a practice-based studio curriculum. As a practicing designer, she works with clients through for instance, a design practice ︎︎︎ [link]. As an exhibiting artist, her photography and drawing work has been shown nationally and internationally.

In spring 2019, she co-founded the KCAI Diversity Working Group (DWG), an ad-hoc committee of the Faculty Assembly dedicated to making space for faculty who seek continuing education, support, and professional development in matters regarding diversity and inclusion in the classroom and in academia. DWG initiated the establishment of KCAI’s IDEAS Council, a co-facilitated group of staff, students, and faculty meeting weekly to engage and serve campus-wide issues as a collective, nomination-based recommending body. She has contributed significantly to the Educational Outreach and Exhibition Committee through organizing exhibitions (2017–2020), as well as support student travel opportunities and scholarships through the Mobility Committee (2021–present).

As an extension of her professional work and continuing education, she has completed introductory coursework in Adult Learning (School of Professional Studies, CUNY) and earned a Post-Graduate Certificate in Type Design (Type@Cooper NYC).

She is certified to serve as a Search Advocate (2020–present) on campus search, selection and retention committees. Her service record reflects a long-term commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and access in education, in and out of the classroom.

Lisa serves as a working board member of AIGA Kansas City (AIGAKC), User Experience Professionals’ Association Kansas City (UXPA-KC) and genEquality.
